The prime minister said he supported Australia’s Border Force in protecting the country’s borders after footage exposed the force’s purchasing of old boats to give to illegal fishers and people smugglers who sail into Australian waters in unseaworthy craft.
Once on the supplied boats, fishermen and people smugglers are turned back from Australian waters.
“I support the Australian Border Force undertaking what actions they believe are necessary to secure our borders. ”

The prime minister said he supported Australia’s Border Force in protecting the country’s borders after footage exposed the force’s purchasing of old boats to give to illegal fishers and people smugglers who sail into Australian waters in unseaworthy craft.

“I support the Australian Border Force undertaking what actions they believe are necessary to secure our borders.”
He said criticism from the opposition that this encouraged the people smuggling operations risked the long-standing efficacy on border protection from Australian governments.
“The opposition, I thought, supported that. We will continue to be consistent about that, as I said prior to my election in 2022, one of the ways that you ensure support for our migration system is by being consistent, is by being certain about protection of our borders.”

One of the unmasked Nazis who demonstrated in front of the NSW Parliament in Sydney on Saturday is a migrant , and another was believed to have a foreign link. When asked about them Albanese said: “They haven’t come through this year… since the report”.
“One of them, I know, was a South African migrant. The irony, of course, of someone saying we don’t want migrants coming here is a migrant themselves, I think, speaks for itself.”
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says ageing coal power stations are the biggest threat to reliable and affordable energy and renewable energy is still the cheapest form of new energy, dismissing Coalition claims they will bring down power prices.
“What it means is that you will pay less than if we just continued on with this path of nothing happening.”
“It was also before we got a look under the hood of what the Coalition have left us,” he said.
Sussan Ley says the Coalition would not scrap existing contracted energy projects but would consider all propositions, including new coal and gas projects, if it were elected.
“Much of the grid now is supplied by coal, and that’s a fact. It makes no sense to prematurely close coal-fired power stations, and in fact, state governments are extending their life.”
On ABC’s News Breakfast, she was asked: “How are you going to make power prices lower and get more supply? No one in the private sector is talking about building new coal-fired power stations. So presumably they’d have to be government funded.”
“We need to step on the gas. It’s as simple as that,” Ley replied. “Australia has energy abundance. We actually are the second or third-largest exporter of [liquid natural gas] in the world.”
Speaking on Seven’s Sunrise this morning, Health Minister Mark Butler labelled yesterday’s announcement that the Liberal Party would formally drop their commitment to net zero as “a decision of extraordinary environmental irresponsibility”.
“Well, I can’t believe we’re back here... I mean, it goes without saying this is a decision of extraordinary environmental irresponsibility. It will be a shock to people who care about climate action.

“It sends a terrible message to our region, [our] Pacific neighbours, to whom climate change is an existential threat and who are so important to our strategic community,” Butler said.

“I know that all of the seats that we weren’t successful at at the last election, and the seats that we hold – indeed everywhere in Australia – Australians will be looking for answers, and what we decided from the Liberal Party yesterday was a policy that delivers affordable energy and responsible emissions reduction. And that matters to every Australian household,” she told Sky News.
“For me… it’s about the national interest. It’s about the right thing for our country.”
“The climate change deniers have won,” was Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen’s characterisation of the Liberal Party’s dumping of net zero yesterday.
Bowen claimed the decision demonstrated the Liberal Party’s intention “to avoid action on the greatest environmental challenge and economic opportunity of our time.”
“Labor has not got it right. They promised in two elections, power prices would come down… so we are very much focused on the future, especially that younger generation that is really struggling right now,” she told Nine’s Today.
Asked whether the outcome was the one she wanted, she said: “Yes, it is”.
